Problem with linking Remote Key RESOLVED

New board Member and owner here! Have tried unsuccessfully many times to have the remote key linked to the memory system. Have owned a 2001 300M with this feature and no problems when I did that some years ago. I followed the instructions in the manual with no success. Even tried both keys! No luck. Has anyone else had this problem? Your advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Bob

Welcome to the board robertr...I had the same problem. My key does not link to my settings automatically. I tried a number of times right by the book. I gave up. It really doesn't matter too much. As for the headlight winking Midnight, that's a potential wiring problem. Get it looked at!

I had the same problem. The system in the car would say that it was learned(or whatever it says. Can't remember verbatim), but it wouldn't work. I have a Genie with Intellicode II transmitters. Don't know if it's actually a problem with the car or the Genie system. Oh well.

I had to use the "learn" button on my garage door unit for the Home Link feature to work.

Every one is different. Check the docs for your unit on how to program another transmitter.

With mine I needed 2 people, lol You have to press and hold the homelink button in the car and the learn button at the unit mounted on the Ceiling of the garage at the same time. My arms are not long enough. :)

Hey Guys I had no problem with the "Home Link System" for my garage door, I'm referring to the key transmitter. I would really like it to function,my wife also drives the 300C and it is a very convenient feature! The memory seats and all.

Does her key work properly? If so, you may have a bad or improperly installed battery. Remove the small screw on the back and pry it off, check the battery. Better yet, let the dealer do it; at this point it's his still his problem.

Also possible that you didn't set up your key for the car. It must be done separately. The manual tells you how. You may need both keys if yours key really has a bad battery.

RobertR,

I've got the exact same problem. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't get it to work either. They ordered a new "memory module" or something of that nature to fix it. It was on back order but recently came off. They expect it in next week and I have an appt on Thursday to get it replaced.

I posted this problem on edmunds and someone responded that they had trouble at first but when they ran through the linking sequence very fast, quicker than the 10 seconds that the manual states, they got it to work. Didn't work for me.

Anyone out there get theirs to work? I was wondering if the system gives you any indication that the programming took, as the homelink system does.

The home link system in the car can be programmed into your home security system by adding a wireless bridge made by Interlogics ( the old ITI) and then the home link module from Interlogics. I have my 300M programmed in which opens my garage door, controls my lights, and turns on or off my security system. This can be added to any hardwired system or wireless system. You can only program one car, but if you have two, another home link module can be programmed. If you sell the car then the new car will override the old car. I sold these systems up for over 10 years, and this works slick as a whistle and gives great range.

I am interested in this. Got a website link or something for the remote security system thing?

As for the key thing, I am kinda lost. What exactly are we talking about here ? :p I would love to know what features I am not using the car.

Mileshoover,
I did what you have suggested.....removed battery from key remote and re-installed, I will look into "setting up key" to the car. However the remote keys do operate the security features.

Big Hank,
Tried so many combinations and variations thinking the manual was incorrect, slower and quicker than the 10 seconds stated. I will keep trying and hopefully someone will come up with a solution. Dealer told me I did not have this option turned on in the menu, possibly, however it was.

Thanks All, :) Bob

The seat memory positions can be programmed to the key. If Driver 1 unlocks the car with his/her key, then the seat position is set to memory position 1. If Driver 2 unlocks the car with his/her key, the seat positions is set to memory position 2.

The instructions for programming the keys are in the manual. I don't have mine handy but I recall it's page forty-something.

If anyone has porgrammed their keys successfully, I would like to know if the vehicle gives you any indication that the key is programmed after you go through the steps.

Yes, you MUST specifically follow the guidance in the manual and its corrective yellow pages. Whn done correctly, you get an audible signal that it was done.

Are these the same instructions as given in the oweners manual??:

MEMORY SYSTEM PROGRAMMING
The Memory Seat Module (MSM) interfaces with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system via the Controller Area
Network (CAN) bus. The proper procedure of setting and recalling a memory position using the RKE is as follows:
1. Press and release memory switch 1 or 2 to recall memory position 1or 2.
2. Adjust the seat, recliner, adjustable pedal position, set radio station presets, set HVAC temperature preset, and
the side view mirrors to the desired position.
3. Press momentarily and release memory switch S.
4. Within five seconds, press momentarily and release memory switch 1 or 2.
5. To link the RKE transmitter: within ten seconds, press and release the “LOCK” button on one of the RKE transmitters
To program the second driver’s position, repeat the above procedure using memory switch 2. The second RKE
transmitter can be programmed in the same fashion as indicated in step 5 Step 5.
Note: The module will abort a recall if the transmission is moved out of park or if any seat movement is
activated whether manually or by memory recall. The module will also abort a recall if any movement of the
adjustable pedals is detected.
To recall either of the programmed positions momentarily press and release either memory selector switch 1 or 2.
If using RKE, just press and release the “UNLOCK” button on the proper transmitter for either position 1 or 2.
A recall is possible any time the vehicle transmission is in PARK and the seatbelt is unbuckled. This condition is
monitored by the MSM.

I had the same thing happen to me i spent about 20 min trying to program the key for the user 1,2 option, heres how i fixed it:

dont know exally which one worked, but try this.. put user key 2 in run psn in car, next select user 1 on the door ..push (s) then user 1 button on door.. with user 1 key in your hand push the lock button ...you should see user 1 profile set...i had to do this real fast about 20 times to finally to get it to work..

i also did it the owners manuel way several times i think that pushing all the button real fast is the key..
once you have the keys programmed correctly you will se that when you push the unlock on your key a message will appear on your heads up display saying user profile (1) (2) set.
hope this helps

The way the new cars are set up, it kinda goes like this.
If you hit the unlock once, only one headlight or tail light usually lets you know which side. If you hit unlock twice, all lights should light up letting you know all doors are unlocked. I dont know if this is the case with this car as I just picked mine up yesterday and now is in the tint shop. I do know there are a lot of cars set up like one headlight for one door and all headlights flash when all doors unlock.
I seen the lights flash when unlocking but I have not looked at it from the front to see if this is the case.

I sat and sat and sat and FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK! :D As RICKSHEMI said, I am not sure which worked but it finally did work. I tried it very fast, with the other key (not ignition key), even with the car off. Finally got it to work!

The one way I did NOT try was pressing the lock button on the key that was in the ignition. So that was not the answer!

I had taken it to the dealer previously and they couldn't get it to work and they ordered a new memory module that just came in and was to be installed on Thursday. Not now!

I got the memory recall to work with the remote but initially thought it wasn't working exactly right because the seat and steering wheel would not return to the exact memory location. Finally I figured out that it was returning to the EXIT position for that memory setting! I have the preferences set to move the seat back and steering up on exit. The remote recall moves to that position and when you insert the key and start the engine, it moves to the driving position! Hallelujah!!
