o.k. I know this sounds weird but is it possible to some how fade out rear deck speakers without knowing it? I turned my car off and the sound system worked perfectly, re-started it a couple hours later and the rear deck speakers only have minimal output. There is 1/3 volume and no base. I thought it was the amp so i bought a kicker upgrade amp and installed it....no change. I have the six channel ba system and need help figuring this one out.

From what Ive read on various forums with the kicker upgrade amp you will get next to no bass unless you have an additional subwoofer and amp and the sound stage is moved more forward so the rear speakers become fill only thus much less output to them.

Someone that has done the kicker upgrade can probably verify this.

You've got that right! At first, I was really disappointed with the whole kicker upgrade until I started messing around more with the mid and front/rear balance. Only after I switched rear sub's wire polarity did I feel that it was money well spent. It's much clearer than the Boston system with heavy bass and hits a lot harder.

jrs1cycle, did you mess with the tune of the speakers at all? Like, make sure it's centered or even throw a little more power to the rear speakers via the tune knob?

I can fade in all the rear speakers to full and still have minimal output, the base and sound was there originally, just lost it somewhere and dont know where to look? I have a hard time believing that i lost both rear speakers at the same time...I plan on amping a rear sub when I get the rear deck 6x9s figured out.

I wonder if somehow the amp went into default mode. You can try to reset the amp to see if this corrects it. Use this process to have the amp reset the cabin ID for the CAN bus.

1. Turn ignition to the "RUN" position, engine not running.
2. Turn the radio off and allow to sit for aproximately 1 minute.
3. Turn the ignition to "OFF" with all doors closed.
4. Wait aproximately 1 minute to allow the CAN bus to go to sleep.
5. Turn the ignition to "RUN" position, do not start engine.
6. Power on the radio.
7. Turn the ignition to the "OFF" position.

This procedure should reset the cabin ID for the amp therefor resetting the digital sound stage.
Hope it works to solve your problem.

FYI
The BA and the Kicker amp all receive the audio signal from only the rear channel output of the radio. So if the front stage is working fine and the above procedure does not correct the condition, then the problem is at the amp itself or the rear speakers. Having this information should limit the troubleshooting if the procedure explained does not correct the issue.

hmmm,

sounds like the amp is bad, or I wonder if you didn't somehow get the
surround activated. This shouldn't be likely with the stock 6 speaker BA
system, but stranger things have happened.

I forget the sequence of buttons to activate/deactivate this, but it
sounds like you are indeed in surround mode, which could explain why
your rear speakers are very soft.

try bumping the volume up 2 clicks, then down 2 clicks within 3 seconds
of doing the volume up, and it needs to be 2 clicks for it to work.

see if that helps.

Does the volume clicks work on an 08 model? Can you explain how this is activated/deactivate? i.e while the music is playing, when the ignition is running???

I tried it while the music is playing and wasn't sure if it worked since I couldn't tell the difference and there's nothing to tell me that it worked.
Thanks!

hey jrs1 I have just recently encountered this same problem and was coming on here to address it and ask for help. In addition to my rear speakers giving me little output the bass does nothing but rattle. It is VERY annoying. I don't want people for blocks around to hear my bass but I enjoy a little and I can't turn the bass setting up passed +2 without tons of rattling. What are some speaker upgrades or exchanges that work well?

found one of them, it's the kicker upgrade, but will perform very well, 77KICK18AB. Still looking for the other amp. I did find out you can tell if you got it
based on whether you had luxury group II option on your car. will try to find the part # for the other amp.

Thanks Cool V.

I checked my amp's part # and it doesn't match any of the one from the other thread and I don't have lux grp 2. :(

I did try the clicking and didn't 'hear' any difference. Is there any other way to enable/disable the surround mode for those without the lux grp 2 option?

My amp part # is 5064336AH.

unfortunately not. it sounds like you have a problem with the amp. not sure if you are in warranty or not. If not, you might try getting the 77KICK18AB.

that had some better tuning in it and would make the midbass sound better.
I'm assuming you have the 8 speaker system.
