While reading about the Motor Trend Car of the Year, I came across what I thought was a very interesting MT comparison of the 06 SRT8 Magnum and the 05 MB E55 AMG. Although the E55 was faster in a straight line, the Magnum was faster in the slalom test. Overall I got the impression they were very impressed with the Magnum.

This comment caught my attention: "A word or two about that shared Mercedes-Benz transmission: The engineer did a better job programming the AMG application. Gear changes are so quick and smooth that, when viewing the acceleration curves on our computer, we have difficulty ascertaining at what speeds they occur."

Price as tested for both vehicles was $43,035 (Magnum) and $96,565 (E55)
