I was driving down the highway and decided to adjust the pedals. While bringing the pedals closer to me, I noticed that the car began to speed up. I thought that it was because the gas pedal was coming closer and therefore my foot was pressing the pedal more. Anyway, it scared the heck out of me.

I got home and with the vehicle stationery, and my foot away from the gas pedal, I moved the pedals closer. The engine surged to like 4000 rpm, even though I was nowhere near the gas pedal. I moved the pedal further away, and the engine speed reduced to a normal level.

I kept doing this, back and forth and each time I brought the pedal closer to me, the engine raced.

This is clearly a major safety issue. I have an appointment with the dealer on Thursday.

Sorry guys, Since I had no responses, I assumed no one had the problem or were not interested.

Had the problem fixed by dealer. They found that when bringing the pedals toward you, they somehow get caught up on the carpet and that pulls the accelerator down. I believe all they did was flatten the carpet down further.

Hey Thanks!

Mine did this yesterday as I was tinkering with seat/steering wheel/mirror postions. I thought I was just not getting my foot far enough back, or that the pedal was moving further than I thought. I'll check for carpet contact as a cause of the surge.
