Hi all

At the end of my rope with my poorly 300C, I'm hoping collective wisdom can shed some light on the issue.

About 3 months ago my CRD started dropping into limp mode (Red flashing lightning bolt). It would drop into limp mode after about a minute of running every time without fail, regardless of whether it was driving or idling.

Prior to going into limp mode it runs perfectly. No loss of power, no roughness, no misfires.

It currently has four codes, one for incorrect immobiliser key or similar (probably my fault) and two for glow plugs (it only has four courtesy of a previous clown and has been the case since I bought it) but the only code I can see causing limp mode is p053a which is the PCV heater circuit / open.

I have since tried another PCV valve to no avail. I have unplugged and reseated pretty much every sensor I can find, pulled the PCM fuse for 20 mins, unplugged the battery, reset codes and still no luck. I have also put in a swirl motor resistor just in case it was that. No difference.

The only thing that gave me any results was a whole can of EGR cleaner. The Celtic remap turned off the EGR and swirl flaps, so it wasn't cleaning the EGR I don't think but still after a can of EGR cleaner the light did not come on for a whole drive. Later that evening though, it was all back to how it was before.

Because of all this issue I bought a second car to actually get about in and combining that with the money I've poured into it, I'm struggling. I really need to either fix it or move it on, but having put so much time and money into the 300C and it still not be fixed is heartbreaking.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a relay in the fuse box in the boot. The only people who were able to diagnose this was the Fiat dealer with the appropriate diagnosic software. It took them less than one hour!
These cars are very complicated in terms of electronics and a problem in one area can cause a whole lot of unrelated symptoms.
Sorry can't be of any further help.

What scanner did you use for detecting fault codes? Cheaper varieties can be very limited in their capabilities. You need something like AlfaOBD or DiagFCA. Also, your Celtic remap may be causing issues, so it could be worth contacting them, as I understand they offer "lifetime" warranty.
