I have a 3rd party wheel/tire road hazard warranty that the dealership sold me for $350 when I got my SRT8. I've had it less than a year and there is 9500 miles on it. I found a screw stuck in the rear 255/40/20 F1 tire. I took it to the tire shop and they said it was too close to the sidewall to patch/plug. So I plan on calling in a warranty claim. I was wondering what members thought about installing a new tire with full tread on the same axle as a tire with 9,500 miles on it. My guess is the tires have around 4/32nds on them, not much but enough to get me through until winter. Do I need to worry about different handling characteristics, full tread/almost worn out tread? What about any difference in diameter having and effect on any ABS/ESP functions or even the differential for that matter. Should I get a second new tire? Any chance of convincing the 3rd party hazard people to replace the other becuase of this? TIA
