I am the first owner of a 2012 Chrysler 300 limited.

Today when I was driving to work, I was stopped at the red light and a warning on the center console about "Service Shifter" came on. I finally get into the parking lot of work, I put it in " Park " and the car would not shift into "Park" but remaining in "Drive".

It wouldn't shift into any gear in fact, so I placed the emergency brake on, and I moved pulled the red cable underneath the little slot next to the shifter and held the push to start button, which in turn shut the entire car down.

When I turned the car back on, it was now in " Park ", but then I couldn't shift into any gear.

Can't reverse, can't drive, nothing.

The message on the dash still told me about the "service shifter" under the messages tab on my dashboard.

After I finally shut off the engine and went inside, I went on my break lunch about 6 hours later and the car started up no problem, and wah lah, the car now shifts, however now the check engine light is on.

The "service shifter" message is gone from my messages menu however the check engine light is still on.

After looking more into this, apparently I think there was a recall I believe S27? it was labeled.

However, just seeing if anyone else experienced this problem or can point me in the direction of where to begin.

As of now, the message on the dash is gone about the "service shifter" but the check engine light remained and now I am able to change gears no problem..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

And if I could take it to the dealer for warranty I would, but I have no more warrant.

Hi itsfabe0,

The S27 recall does include 2012-2014 model year 300s. You can check recalls.mopar.com to see if your vehicle is affected. Any recall that needs to be completed is done free of charge at any certified dealership. If you need help making an appointment, let me know.

Service Shifter

Was just reading your thread from a year or so ago because I just had the exact thing happen to me tonight when i went to work. I parked my car at work and then tried to shift it into gear and nothing. The shifter moves but does no go into driver or revers. I had to put the emergency brake on. Now I'm concerned when i go back out what will happen will I be able to get it in gear or not.

Did you ever find what the problem was?

thanks,
