Has anyone tried actually swapping the factory covers on the side view mirrors?

Mine came with the chrome, but personally I would prefer they match the body color. I have a set of color matched mirrors coming and am wondering if it's possible to just swap the covers without swapping out the entire assembly.

painyt em? or buy the cheap ebay covers and have those painted and put them over the chrome
