I know I've brought this up a few times before, but I wanted to get a little clarification from those of you who may know more than I about this stuff.

I've got a nav unit and no Sirius and am trying to figure out a way to get the factory Sirius unit attached and get an antenna hooked up without having to do the roof version. What I'd like to do is get one of the small magnetic mount antennas and mount it on the dash (I'm pretty sure someone here has done this).

The big question is, are the connectors the same, can I just switch out the antenna? I just spoke to an installer and he said he didn't know, but doubted it. I still have to think the Sirius would have standarized the connection...or am I on crack :scratchch

If I understand you correctly.......

For reasons unknown to me the factory sirius tuner uses the old style antennas with two inputs. So if you buy one of those small magnetic antennas you will need this adapter. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-no8gi5...asp?g=251750&I=209SIRSP&search=sirius+antenna

I wanted to do the opposite and use my already installed roof antenna on a new tuner because I changed the head unit but the new tuners are not backwards compatible with old antennas. They even tell you on the cruthfield page. The Terk SIR-SP adapter allows a single-cable SIRIUS antenna to connect to an older SIRIUS tuner with dual antenna input connections. (Note: You cannot use this adapter to connect a dual-cable antenna to a single-input tuner.) 1-year warranty.

Thanks! You guys are great, I continue to love this forum!

I know there are no metallic surfaces on the dash, but if you run the wiring behind the dash it will keep it right where in needs to be without metal. I'm currently doing this with my Plug and Play unit and it works pretty well.

I contacted Sirius directly about the window mount antenna and they said it was great and they love it.... but it was not available for purchase. Nice.

Anyway, the little Crutchfield adaptor should set me up perfectly!

Thanks again, I'll keep you updated on my progress
