So whats that big ole muffler where the H-PIPE should be? has anyone cut this out and just put pipe in its place? how does it sound like this? also how do the rear mufflers sound gone has anyone put flowmaster super 40s on or a comparable exhaust system? when you do the exhaust do you pull both the big muffler and the rear 2 or just the rears? all input is appreciated

Here's a great link, but there is lots more to discover by typing 'resonators' 'mufflers' or 'exhaust' in the search engine on the Navigation bar above... enjoy.

I had my resonators deleted a couple of weeks ago, gives the car a very muscular sound when you fire it up, sounds real sweet, local muffler shop charged me a C note to cut the resonators off, splice in a short pipe and added 3 1/2 inch rolled tips. My bud removed the suit case muffler on his hemi/magnum r/t, i prefer the sound of my mod over his, he loves the way his sounds.
You have to be a bit careful, and remember this is considered a luxury hi-po car, and i wouldn't want it too loud. I had dynamax turbos on my Impala SS, it was much louder than the mod i had done on my 300C. It passes the wife test very well thank you. :) I believe i will leave the resonators off. If i get tired of the sound, i can revert back to stock for 50 bucks or so. Go for it!

"Flowmasters" for me

I removed the "BIG Suitcase" and the resonators,
replaced with Pro 40 Flowmasters.Had 4" tips at that time.
The Flowmasters sounded great to me,
but #1 Honey didn't care for Macho sound,so I added
a Cherry Bomb glasspack to each side. Still had a deep rumble at idle,
a good growl upon acceleration, and sounded Great at WOT. ( Just My Opinion ).
Since then ,I have removed the 4" chrome tips, replaced them with Magnaflow 3 & 1/2 " Dual tips.
Still sounds great,no noticable drone at cruising speed

Stock system has a perfectly good "H" pipe !!!
Problem is with the suitcase muffler __ way to restrictive -- I as well as several others have "cut out the suitcase" behind the " H " pipes and have replaced it with flo-master dual chamber mufflers running to Mandrell bent pipes. This gave me the true " HEMI" burbble that I was looking for. BTW, if you have to ask what a burbble is, and you are concerned about having an acousticle exhaust, just grab ahold of one of the cat-back systems.

If you truly like a loud sound definately pull out the suitcase and Mandrell bend pipes out to 3 1/2" tips ( I had 4" put up but just didn't look right). The sound was exactly what I was looking for.The only drawback is that under 1200 RPM it does drone so you have to "play in 4th.in order to keep MDS from bogging. At appox. 85 MPH on a trip cabin noise is noticable. As NR & I have discussed on earlier posts, this can be remidied by adding 12" glass packs before the tips.Personally, I enjoy the clean lines of not having the " bulging "resonators exposed in the rear.

Just remember that the car comes stock with perfectly good tuned H pipes, and my opinion is that if it aint broke -- don't fix it.
I'm a very happy camper with my set-up.But then again, we all know what opinions are like !
