I am in the midst of changing all the front end bushings with Pedders stuff right now and I ran into a problem.

The inside sway bar bushings is thicker than the sway bar. I replaced the sway bar bushings last year with Chrysler stuff and they fit snug from day 1. So I'm not going to install these. They just won't fit.

Now I'm nervous about everything else. I'm very nervous that the tension strut (radius arm) bushings, bump steer bushings, upper and lower control arm bushings and lower strut mount bushings all won't fit. In my experience if 1 product doesn't fit, none will fit. Its not just a fluke.

This is a 2005 300C. Does anyone have any thoughts? I've got the car on the rack at a friend's shop and we're a bit nervous to start tearing it apart, after the first easy bushing doesn't fit correctly.

Thanks!

Sounds like you need to confirm with pedders about the part #s of said parts. Maybe it is just a fluke you got sways that are wrong. They have been putting parts in LX for some time now.

Get a set of Sway bushings there cheap and easy, see if that helps. Thats the only thing left from the normal LX front end problems you haven't done. If thats not it Might be tie ends they my look good but you can't see inside. Also look at springs and Struts. Do the bounce test see if the strut is bad.

For the sway bar bushings, we publish what size sway bars they are for. If your bar is not that size, then they will not fit. You need to measure your sway bars. From the site listed below, this is how we list our sway bar bushings exactly:
https://secure.merlinsoftware.com.au/peddersusa/default.aspx?Mode=PL&Level1=CHRYSLER&Level2=LX

EP3522/30 LX sway bar mount 30mm
EP3522/32 LX sway bar mount 32mm
EP3524/14.5 LX sway bar mount 14.5mm
EP3524/18 LX sway bar mount 18mm

For noise issues, after installing the tension rods or control arms, the primary reasons for noises are as follows:
1. Balljoints not tightened correctly. Extremely common
2. Sway bar end links not tight
3. Incorrect lubrication process. You lubricate, using the lube included, between the ferrule and the bushing, plus add a little to the face of the bushings.

So for the above poster who has sway bar bushings that do not fit, you need to look at the relationship between your sway bar (OD) and the bushings you ordered. Do not let this issue prejudice you on the other bushings you have. There have been approx 25 sets of the critical front bushing kits installed on Police vehicles across the country. I have chatted with the shops that did the install, first to assist them in best practices, and second call to confirm all is well, and all of them are doing very well and are happy.

So if you need additional assistance, just ask!

The issue with ball joints and getting them tight is related to getting proper access. . You cannot torque them properly unless the suspension is raised up enough to get a socket on the nut. The torq is 50lbft plus 90 degrees. We have documented that at 50lbft, the ballstud may still rotate in the knuckle. This is due to seriously high tolerance variations that Chrysler allows.

So I had my final warranty inspection done a couple weeks ago at 35,960 miles, and found that the bushing on the drivers side tension strut had a small crack. I didn't have any noise or vibration yet, but nonetheless, the part was on its way to failing, so I had it replaced under warranty.

I asked the dealer to substitute the SRT tension strut, but they declined. They also declined to install the SRT tension strut even if I paid the difference between the standard tension strut and the SRT piece. So I've got a new standard tension strut. I will definitely be upgrading to the SRT parts when they fail again sometime down the road and the repair will be at my own expense.

Judging by the high failure rates of the Police Interceptor tension rode bushings, why even bother with the OE SRT8 units? You should do the Pedders tension rod buhsings and never worry about them again.

Just had the outer tie rods and tension struts replaced - clunk is gone! Dealer quoted $1200 for this work, I went out of town for the holidays, so had a buddy do it at his dealership for $450, I'm happy!

I replaced my sway bar bushings and outer tie rod ends about a month ago and it made a huge difference. My clunking is about 95% gone, but still noticeable in certain situations. I also noticed that my tension strut bushings are cracked on both sides so I'll do that next.

Well I just bought my 300C, Tension struts are Toast. So I guess I'll be replacing them aswell. Keep everyone updated if that solves the annoying noise. Already replaced the sway bar bushings.

hey peeps, I tried re reading this thread a few times but am still not sure if these new and revised tension struts mentioned in the first post will fit a 2006 V6 3.5L model?

If so, are the part numbers im looking for 5290828AA and 5290829AA or is it 5180607AA and 5810606AA? And is it recommended to to both sides, or just the side that has the clunk issue?

Thanks for any assistance

Guys, is this something I can do without a lift or in the garage? I am at the mercy of my 2006 300c suspension and all its failings. This is the one thing I hate the most about the car. I would love to upgrade and improve the front suspension and handling.

I too am having this issue and would like this question answered as well...Anyone out there know the answer?

Would replacing the tension struts eliminate the creaking sound from the driver's side suspension upon suspension rebound? It has become terrible within the last few weeks on my 2006 C with 68,000 miles. Everything else has checked out, with only minor damage (cracks) visible to the tension strut bushing, with 2 different dealers advising me to replace them both whenever the damn things become available again - but it appears I have options now....

I suppose ordering the 06 tension struts would be foolish, but which would be better - the 2010 ones or the SRT ones (and which year for the SRT's)? Also, why do the dealers not have any, but several online parts suppliers seems to list them? The 2006 ones (that are still on backorder at dealers) come up at $52 at MoparPartz, the 2010 ones come up at $27, and the SRT ones come up at $64....so which would be best and still work - the 2010 standards or the SRT ones that are mentioned earlier in the thread?

First post here, so thanks for the help in advance!

I got the 05 SRT8 Tension Struts. They are great!, and not on backorder;) Also WAY better on the C than the crappy stock ones. You have to change both when you do it though. Change your Front Swaybar End links. They might not look damaged but I had the exact same problem, they helped drastically. Upper control arm, and Strut mounts could be it too.
