I think I've made every silly SRT-8 mistake out there. Here's a new tip based on my latest experience:

When disconecting the battery - DO NOT SHUT THE TRUNK!!!!!

Guess how we open our trunks to hook the battery back up......

1) Use the button release (unless of course, you UNPLUGGED THE BATTERY!!)

2) Use your key remote (unless of course.....!!!!!!)

Option 3: flip the back seats down (unless your driver seat is too far back for the back seat to lie flat!!!!!!!!)

Fortunately, my wife sits further forward. Thus, I could fold down the passenger rear seat, slide my full-sized adult body through the narrow opening while holding a flashlight to get to the internal emergency trunk release.

It worked. But leaving the trun lid open would have been nice. :buttkick:

I think that has happened to someone here before and he got in the same way...probably the only way. Good advice.

i did the same thing when i put the magnaflows on:
battery disconect? check
hatch shut? check---oh #[email protected]#%#!

My battery now has a sticker on it reminding me not to do that again. DCX should do one too....

I did that last year and crawled through th back seat and pulled the escape handle.

There is a simple elegant solution someone posted when I started a similar thread about this time last year. Pop the hood, hook up some jumpers to the under hood terminals, hit the trunk release button, voila, trunk pops open.

I was going to post that but you beat me to it! One word of caution; if you simply disconnected the negative cable to the battery the there's no danger in the "jumper" method under the hood.....

However, if for some reason the positive cable was disconnected, or the battery was removed completely, leaving the pos. cable dangling around back there.... I'd hate to have that positive cable touching a ground when you hooked the jumper box up in the front.

Oh no Matt. I can just imagine you having to crawl through the back. Matt is not a small guy, no giant, but not a small guy. It made me kind of laugh though at the silliness. Hopefully your laughing now about it.

I'm embarassed even to admit this but this has happened to me three times already, twice with battery disconnected and another time I lock the key in the trunk. The sad part is I've only had the car for two months. :banghead:

I'm not THAT huge! 6'0", 205 lbs. That is a bit big to slither into a trunk though! I'm just glad I hadn't locked the car first too. Then what would we do?

The elegant solution...

...is to always use your $10 9v Memory Saver, which, along with a 12v torque wrench for your wheel lugs, is a mandatory tool in the spare wheel well, whenever you'll be disconnecting the battery for any reason.

Doing so not only makes it unnecessary to reset those items which tend to lose their settings with the battery disconnected, but provides a very easy means of repowering the battery bus so you can pop the trunk with key or button, when, not if, you eventually lock yourself out of the trunk.

Merely connect the Memory Saver's alligator clips to any robust battery, even a lantern battery will do, via its extra-long cabling, and you're "in there". ;)

(The Memory Saver's little 9v battery lacks the amperage to move the trunk locks' solenoid, but provides sufficient power to the battery bus to preserve all pre-sets and memory settings.)

elegant...but disconnecting the 9 volt to hook up the lantern battery means you lose all those precious settings...which is the lesser evil?

It would hardly be elegant if your scenario were remotely correct, pup. ;) Back to the books!

OK. You're back on my ignore list. ;)

Yup, the very first Eagle squadron anywhere, the Triple Nickel, was at Luke, Chris. And the second through the fourth squadrons to be formed as well. After 21 years on station the last F-15s left Luke in 1995 for Seymour Johnson AFB, NC.

The lawn darts were late comers.

I see your mistake and raise you!

Thank you for the "Heads Up"!

I hate to admit it, but I think I did one mistake better than you. Years ago we were re-assembling my brothers 1959 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud after painting. I believe the trunk lid had been removed before painting. We put it back on, but hadn't connected the trunk release handle yet. I made the mistake of closing the lid to check alignment. It shut fine and both locks clicked into place. IIRC there was a center handle that twisted to open. It was connected to two rods, one on each side going to a separate latch. We were sick about it, but the only way to get into the trunk was to drill two 1" holes up from underneath the rear bumper to access the rods. Luckily, I had spent quite a bit of time looking at the trunk lid before putting it back on, so I had the correct placement for the holes.
