I'm considering a tire swap on the SRT and was wondering what everyone switched to and what there experience was. I think this would be really helpful to get some good tire reviews on here. I'm considering the Nitto N05's doing 315 rear and 275 front but I saw someone here selling there's after 1100 miles.

I don't mind soft compound and 15k+ changes since i don't drive it that much and I'm in Florida so no snow to worry about. Ultimately great wet weather and dry weather traction is a must The car is gonna get modded so traction is key.

I've also read about the Michelin Pilot sports as well but they are pricey. I have not had good luck getting Toyo's to balance right. I'm anal as hell so road noise and tire shack and me don't get along at all. I love DR's for the back but 5k tire changes at $600 kinda suck. I've also looked at the Nitto Invo as well. Maybe a BFG?

Would love to hear what you all think...

I usually only run the Michelin pilot super sports but have been trying the Invo's.
Have to admit the Invo's are surprising me for grip levels, very comparable to the MPSS. Both hold their own in the wet.

The 2012 SRT is only a 9" rim, you weren't looking at trying to put 315 on that I hope

I like the idea of the MSPS tires myself. I agree with him ^^^^ on trying to put a 315 on the stock wheel. I'd even shy away from doing a 275 on the fronts just to avoid interference at full steering lock and increased steering effort, especially at low speed.

I've got the invo's on my car and they grip like hell.

I haven't tried the Nitto's or the Invo's, but I have the Michelin Pilot Super Sports installed and I can't praise them enough.
It has changed the way the car drives for the better in every way and they are extremely smooth and quiet. Excellent grip in the dry and wet and keep their balance, no flat spot issues after the car sits in the sun for a while either.

I know they are a lot more money but they really are that much better, IMO.

Great feedback. I think I'm leaning toward the Invo's I've just heard great things about them.

As for tire size 275 and 315 will go on a 9" rim all day long with no issues at all. I had a 2004 Cobra and they came with a factory 17x9 rim and 275/40/17 Goodyear F1 tire stock. So that fits with no issues. I ran 315 drag radials on those factory 9" rims for years making 650HP and had no troubles at all. There is a tire thread on here where someone has a black SRT8 with that exact combo with pics posted and it looks great!

So for me I think that's the way to go. But the more info we have the better of course so everyone keep posting reviews and thoughts that's what makes this place so great!

Yes they will physically fit, but I'd never do it. your asking about wanting performance tires and then want to go to wide for the rim, which is now defeating the purpose.

Correct rim width ensures flex at the designed flex point in a tire sidewall for optimum tire performance.
If the rim is too narrow, (or the tire too wide) the flex point moves toward the shoulder area, creating heat build up in the shoulder, which then means your asking for a sidewall blowout most likely. Admittedly standard driving, thats unlikely.

Also going too extreme, most likely will result in uneven tread contact pressure causing uneven wear which reduces traction and then also vulnerable to bead dislodgement.
Plus forget cornering hard around a mountain, cause they will flex themselves stupid.

We can agree to disagree. Ford sends out there Cobras with 9" rims and 275/40 tires on them. they fit within the factory spec with no issues at all. I have an F150 with 275/45/20's on the factory 9" rim and have aired them down to 15psi and gone rock climbing and not busted a bead, even the Raptor runs a 35"x12.5" tire on 9" rim from the factory. I've also run 315's along with everyone other high HP Cobra practically anywhere and we ranged in power from 500hp to 1000hp running 315 drag radials on factory 9" rims and I've never heard of anyone breaking a bead or sidewall failure or anything like that. Unless you abuse the tire, run it to low on air at high speeds to overheat the sidewalls (and even then you have to do it for a very long time) it's not going to fail. Hell we ran 15psi doing 5k RPM launches on 315 drag radials pulling 1.4 60's and never had a tire problem.

The size difference were talking about between say a 245 vs 275 is 1.2" in tread total tread width or .6" difference on each side of the rim, that's nothing. Even jumping to a 315 it's only about 1.8" width difference from a 245 all the way to a 315. Today's tire technology this still operates well within the range of the tire and what it can handle. Would it be better on a 10" rim, probably. Is anything going to fail or not perform, no it will work and perform just find. I've done the water test and we did a power test where we rolled the tire through powder to check the contact patch on the ground and it lays nice and flat with no issues.

This car here is actually running 275/315 combo and unless you look very closely it's hard to tell. you can see the tire isn't bulging all over the place and the sidewalls aren't all ballooned out.

I was only talking about the 315 not the 275 width.

I would have no problem at all running 315 on the rears if I am spending most of my time on the strip running the quarter mile.
Wider = more contact patch = better grip.

But if I am pushing the car to its limits up or down a mountain then I wouldn't run that combination.
Just thought I would clear it up a bit.

it's all good. I live in Florida the only real corners we have are the ones where you turn to get our of your neighborhood and the only "mountains" we have are bridges and overpasses so we don't have a whole lot going on here except straight lines lol...
