My question is, when is the traction control off, we have an A.W.D. and according to the manual when the light is on, on the dash board, the traction control is off, and everytime you restart your car the traction control is automatically turned on, is this the case, everytime we restart we have to manually turn it off, to where we see the little skid marked logo on the dash, that supposed to mean it's off right, the only reason i bring this up is gas mileage is diffrent with it on, on long trips and even around town, if we don't need it then i want it off. The sales lady we bought it from says when the light is on the dash then the traction control is indeed off, can anyone shed some light on this sublect please.

What you said is correct. The skidding car light means TC is off and it defaults to on. The light will come on if TC is on and the system detects wheel spin and is coreecting it. That said, I leave it on all the time, unless I have a reason to turn it off.

1sweetc,

ESP never goes off(too bad).
The button will "semi" deactivate ESP. I do not know why this is.

Concerning your question the light will be on when it(esp button) is off.

When (hopefully this will not happen) esp is needed esp/trac control will come on even with the esp button "off"

Think of the light in a different way...

The light is "on" when you are "driving dangerously." Turning off ESP is "more dangerous." If ESP is on and the light comes on then you are driving "dangerously." :)

Ok guys Thank You for the reply's, the main reason i was mentioning this was, a buddy of mine has a 05 G.T.O. and he said when he took a trip up north about 500 miles away he did not know the Traction control was on and said that his gas mileage was terrible, so upon reading his owners manual it said it also defaults on, so on there trip back he turned the Traction control off and his gas mileage increased to normal so appearantly it made a diffrence to him, this is why i was asking, better gas mileage without it off. Once again Thanks for the input.
