Has enybody ever istalled a train horn on their car. There is a place here in Orlando that for $300 will install a train horn. One of the guys there has it on his Dakota and it sounds sick. Its great for scaryng the heck out of whoever cuts you off or gets in your way.

WES, are you able to get a hold of this product and install it? What would be the price? I would be interested.

I have twin Italian air horns (same as Ferrari) and they are fabulous, about $22 from Autobarn. No air tanks, ust a small electric compressor and some tubing. If I had a truck, I would consider a train horn but you might seriously violate some noise ordanances (not of course around the tracks) but in many neighborhoods. This would be louder than a Concorde which was not allowed to fly across the US.

Sorry to put damper on

You will be sought after by the local police, just inquire with authorities.
Train horns are exceptionally LOUD! (probably blow out the trunk, back seat, or window, if installed in the trunk)

I know we all have been cut off and no one pays attention to car horns anyway

Check the web for train horns there are articles about cars with TRAIN horns that have caused accidents and have been liable.

Just put various LEGAL car horns on (sound like major traffic jam).

Unfortunately in Calif. there are sound limits on vehicle horns, just check and see what you can buy in your local auto parts store. You can buy air horns that are more noticeable then the average car manufacture. Try a salvage yard for "Caddie" horns.......they are legal.

(I would love to have a 5 note Leslie train horn for the truck, couldn't afford the air tank and compressor to drive the monster)

Just an FYI not trying to start anything,
Tom

You are correct that they are definitely illegal in CA...on anything other than a diesel locomotive. :wink1:

Well I am sure they are illegal, but so is speeding. I had a huge set of three air horns on my Escalade with the air tank and the whole nine yards. I had to remove the spare tire underneath the truck to get them to fit. I loved them and have tried about every way possible to get them on the 300c but its just not happening. I had them hooked up on a diff switch so I still had my regular horn. The girls always seemed to like to blow that horn---lol. I have been looking for just a single horn, but am afraid they wont be as loud.:naughty:

I installed a wolo truck horn. Powerhouse 418 to be exact. Required a lil compressor and 2 long horns. I barely got her to fit behind the front passenger side bumper below the head light. Kept the stock horn switch and just installed my own switch for the horn. Scares people senseless...nobody cuts me off now!

I would love to do this but the only decent train horn I've been able to find is the Klien? and I haven't really been able to figure out how to mount those in the group of three anywhere or how to mount them separately if separated off of the base. Plus I don't want to hurt anything like the radiator, etc.

Someone in the next neighborhood over has a very loud train horn. I hear it all the time. At first I thought it was an actual train, but then I realized we don’t have a single train track within 50 miles of where I live. It is obnoxious. :thumbsdow

I can understand that, I think of it more as a novelty, something to use every once in a while and surprise a few friends, not exactly something I would use to announce I'm leaving for work every day. Some people just lack a little in the common sense department or are just plain rude that way.

Rude ain’t the word…..they use that crap as they would a regular horn….”oh look there’s Tom and his wife” BLEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMM!!! People have complained about it, but yet it continues. I could care less if it is used as a novelty….but as a regular daily horn experience…..too tacky/rude for me. Plus I've heard it at around 2-3 am!! :twak:
