Transmission Slip

Just been told by the 5 Star dealer that they are waiting for direction from Chrysler on my transmission slip/noise. (2000mi) It happens on a hill (to be sure), dry ground, from a dead stop. hard acceleration (no wheel spin) and I hear a moan/slipping/shutter vibration for about 2-3 seconds. My guess is that it's the torque converter headed south. They did the water tsb and no help. Service manager was with me on the ride and acknowledged the problem. Any thoughts? everything else works great. oh by the way its a hemi 2wd. 11/15/05 Update just got a call from the Service manager at the 5 star chrysler dealership said the new torque converter is on the way and some related parts, about a 2 day install. hope it all goes well.

Wow, please keep us (me) updated... mine is going in again tomorrow for this issue (among others) and the dealer has still not done the water tsb (grrr!) so hopefully that helps, but if not, it's nice to know where to go next, because it reaaaaally feels like the torque converter imo.
just got the car back from the dealership its works great so far i'll let you all know if i have a glitch, going on a 2000mi trip :) oh they put a new torque converter in, plus a dipstick groumet

OH mY GOD I thought the tranny was fixed they put a new torque converter in and low and behold it has the EXACT SAME SLIP AFTER 5 MI. right straight back to the dealer this mornng. In this state they have strike 4 and they own it. and i own my money back tax and all. I suspect they will really take a hard look at it this time. I ALWAYS go with the tech for the demonstration of the problem so they cant say they can't reproduce it. keep you al advised. You may want to try you 300 to see if you can reproduce this with yours. 1.a dead stop on a pretty good hill. 2.hard acceerlation put not hard enough to skid the tires, and what a moan/vibration/shutter for a few seconds.oh boy

Do some calling around to some independent transmission shops, I'll bet you that every single one of them will tell you that once an automatic transmission is contaminated with water, it's done. It needs to be overhauled, with new friction clutches. The new torque converter is fine and dandy, but what about all the clutches in the tranny itself that are flaking apart?? I would insist on either a new transmission or at least a complete overhaul of yours; Last thing you want is for them to get it to work well enough to JUST get out of warranty.....
very good advice. the service manager said he would test drive another on his lot to see if he could reproduce the slip, he said go ahead and take it on my 2000mi trip, the basic warrany on a 06 does not provide for a rental car. i guess they (chrysler) figured that one out,They only have 2 more shots and they own it. 36000 mi is a long way out. i love the car and everthing else works, but i guess i may have to take a new one if they cant fix this.
