When my STR-8 6.1 is cold it slips just a small amount as I pull away . Looking at the paper work that came with the car I don't think its ever had a gearbox service , its done about 77,000 miles. Would an oil & filter change fix this ? Is this the same auto-box thats in the S Class Merc & what colour is the oil ? As I have a mate that works in a Mrec Dealership and may be able to slip it in on a Saturday and do it for a drink ! But they not want to take it in if it turns out to be the wrong box and they not have the parts to do it and get it out before the boss gets in !!! Thanks PAT

the NAG1 transmission, also called WA580 (or 5G-Tronic / 722.6), was a MB item, also used in Vito, Sprinter & severral MB cars. Its a bit tricky to do properly yourself (you need to measure temperatures & fill according to a sliding scale based on that), so if you can get a dealer at El Cheapo prices, its a good idea - the box is still used in their high output cars, eg AMG S65 as it has a capacity of 756 Ft/Lbs. A variation was also put into the SLR McLaren....unfortunalely for the boasting, SsangYong also use it

Its so sad these stylish sexy cars ^^^^ don't make it to Australia, cause it would be off to the dealer for me too.
Then show it off at night where all the boys and their toys meet

Blue top solenoid replacement in our gearboxes has had a small number of adherents over the years....be aware it will make for slightly uncomfortable downshifts (it 'thumps' the new gear ratio into place) - not something you want neccessarily on as daily drive

Checkout the TranZformer too http://www.zautotech.com/tranzformer.html

You need to renew the oil, its degraded so you get the slippage from cold. Topping up won't sort it because its problem from cold. Tale tale sign is oil should smell like ester, when its gonner it turns to brown colour and smells like burnt smell. The Merc oil is pink, cost about tenner for a litre bottle. Don't forget the filter change and seals too. Anyways, heres how

I got the same thing going on. But I'm waiting to change my fluid until I put in a higher stall torque converter, plus i just put it up for the winter. But when I was driving in the cold *20 I was using auto stick to shift until they came up to temp.

Would this on its own be OK to sort the box out with the supercharger ? I only plan on running low boost not going mad . Thanks PAT

personally, I'd be inclined to make a decision....either I want harder shifts that arent adjustable (get bluetops, change the trans fluid at the same time), OR being satisfied with the shifts, just do a fluid change given that that alone will probably remedy the slipping - your mileage puts you smack bang in the 'time to drain' bracket anyway, OR swap the fluid & consider trying a TranZformer if I think the blown car would benefit after fitting it - this last one probably gives you the best of all worlds, you get more adjustability at a cheaper price than AMG bluetops & you can afford to wait until the pain of buying the S/C eases

Most slip problems seem to relate to having the wrong fluid level, or past sell-by date fluid. Its a good idea to swap the fluid anyway if you intend to blow it
