So, i visited the dealer with my alignment issues some of you may already know....

And in that process, i have a recall for my trunk button assembly. I don't know if its the full taillight, or just the button itself, but it has been re-designed, and being replaced.

Part is on order, and will call me when they get it.

I know a few of you had an issue with your trunk mysteriously opening, well... the fix has come!

Would you happen to have a recall or bulletin number? Thought I had fixed mine with a little water repellant spray, but nope....not fixed. It is baaaaaaaaaaak.
Thanks.

Trunk was opening randomly. They replaced the button (which is noticeably different in feel and function) and it's perfect.

I have a 2013 "S" and haven't received a recall notice about the trunk button and didn't see a bulletin for it listed on NHTSA's website.

May I ask how they specifically identified your car (that I might be able to discern why I didn't get a notice)?

I guess I could call my dealer but I have a feeling they'd rather me not say "I heard something on a forum" and probably tell me to follow my (nonexistent at present) recall notice. So just curious about my car -- I bought it in November and the trunk has been perfectly fine.

Hmmm, every once in a while I have to press my trunk button several times before it works. A few times that didn't work and I used the key fob release.
That's exactly how mine started misbehaving. Then, I'd come out of a store and my truck would be open in the parking lot. It happened a few times and I figured I had sat on the remote or something. Finally, one day, it went nuts in my garage. You could hear it hammering away at the servo to unlock the truck over and over. I popped the trunk liner down and unplugged the passive entry button on a hunch and it stopped opening itself. The dealer has notes on it and they just replace the button, no questions asked. I didn't know it was a recall, I thought it was just a known issue with a fix when it happens.

They replace just the button or the whole housing?
Not sure what you consider the "whole housing". The button is part of a module. They replace everything that the wire plugs in to. The tail light is not affected. The button module is separate from the tail light.

Not a button malfunction on the trunk lid but a problem with rain water imprisoned in the double skin that
has a tendancy to pour down my neck or into the trunk area when the lid is opened .

Solution is to remove the four stickers that inexplicably cover the drain holes on each corner of the lid.

They are replacing the trunk button from a plastic one to a rubber sealed button instead. Also there is mention of checking the stop light housing seal for water intrusion. So it seems there could be a problem there, but as one mention remove the stickers on corner of trunk to let water out.

Check out attached PDF to see old vs revised.

The bulletin identifies an "LX" model and not a "S" model. Obviously I'm not understanding why it applies to the "S" model. Can someone tell me why the "S" is not specifically shown?

Mike, "LX" is the general 300 platform segment identifier. It appears this service bulletin would apply to all 300's regardless of model. I checked my 2013 Varvatos Limited and the MDH code is before the cut-off. I've only had this happen to me once or twice - I called my dealer and they unaware of anything on this issue; saying "there are no service programs applicable to your vehicle in dealer connect". This may take some additional persuading by way of an on-site visit.

The picture posted by Hawk in post #15 is very helpful and will identify which button you have in your vehicle.

Stopped in at the dealer today. All I said was, "Hello, I seem to be having a problem with my 300s trunk". She says, can you bring in in tomorrow and we will replace the button. They are going to have a look at the transmission that seems to "hunt" sometimes under acceleration. Advisor seems to think there was a software update. Will let you know if there is such an update.
