Vancouver man wins "What can you Hemi?" contest

The contest was launched in February. Contestants were asked "If you could infuse the power and torque of the 5.7-litre V8 Hemi engine into anything, what would it be?" Contestants had to submit their idea in a brief essay and support it with a sketch. Contest information was available online at www.WhatCanYouHemi.com. More than 360 aspiring inventors submitted their wildest ideas before the April 6 postmark deadline.

The finalists of the "What Can You Hemi?" contest saw their drawing board dreams become realities when the Chrysler Group unveiled the full-size, operational versions of each of the five inventions for the first time in Chelsea, Michigan, at DaimlerChrysler's proving grounds. All five finalists, whose entries were chosen from among hundreds submitted throughout the U.S. and Canada, were on-hand to see their ideas unveiled.

"While all five finalists and their ideas were brilliant, the Hemi Trike stood out for its high marks in creativity, engineering feasibility, safety and functionality." said Frank Klegon, Chrysler Group Vice President- Product Development Process and Components.

The five inventions included the Hemi Trike, Hemi snowblower, Hemi ice-rink smoother, Hemi shredder, and Hemi-go-round.

Chrysler shows off one outrageous HEMI-powered kiddie trike.
by Henny Hemmes (2005-06-20)

The success of the modern HEMI has become a PR man's dream. The engine has allowed Chrysler Group to create some of the most powerful vehicles in their respective segments: the Grand Cherokee is the most powerful SUV, the Chrysler 300C is the most powerful sedan, and the Ram is the most powerful pickup truck.

But what else could you power with a HEMI? Chrysler asked the question earlier this year, and it received 600 responses from folks who wanted to answer when asked, "What would you HEMI?" The online contest generated ideas as bizarre as a HEMI-powered snowblower, a merry-go-round, a trike, a Zamboni, and a desk shredder. But in the end, only one HEMI-powered extravagance would reign. Marcus Braun of Vancouver, B.C., took home the prize with his HEMI Trike, an adaption of a childhood tricycle powered by the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. For his concept, Braun drove home with the grand prize, a Chrysler 300.

Marcus - you out there?
