I bought a Bosch S5010 800A 85AH battery today, from Euro car parts cost about £90, significantly cheaper than Halfords. I couldn't get the on line deal to work with my post code, but the local store matched the price to within a couple of quid.

This is supposed to be maintenance free and a five year warranty. The original stock battery was rated at 730A 72AH, so it is a better battery for the same physical size.

I would have liked a Varta, but I couldn't source one locally.

This should ensure there will be no battery trouble for a while and give me peace of mind.

The original battery hasn't failed but as it is now into the 7th year, it's time for a change before it fails some day when I'm out some where, click, click, click isn't good.

I got one of those permanent maintenance chargers before we went away to Oz for Christmas and I've been using it ever since. The car starts on the first turn every time now, even after being left on the drive for a month while were away.

I use an optimiser( meant to be for bikes) on my camper as its hardly used and that keeps the battery up as the thatcham tends to drain the sh1t out it if I don't keep it charged

Fitted the new battery today, it fitted the battery tray perfectly, no issues with the clamp etc. The vent tube even fitted directly into the new Bosch battery. However, I hooked up jump leads and another battery under the bonnet to save the settings, but I didn't work. When I disconnected the battery in the boot the boot light started to flash on and off, all a bit strange. In the end I just disconnected the battery and left the car with no power. All the radio settings etc were still saved, there is obviously some sort of battery in the radio. I did have to reset the windows and the stability system steering position.

Hi Torian, the Optima's arn't widely available around here. I know a few people who have used them in classic cars, some say they don't last too well either and they arn't stock sizes, so some issues with leads and mounting securely etc.
this feed was about what battery to be used in the 300 series and SRT8 Chrysler? all I see is nothing but a bunch of not so sure ? and this will work if you? perhaps the worst forum I have came to for the info needed I'm not looking for some deal or something that might work if you do this or that? I'm looking for the fact recommendation as to the specific battery that SHOULD be used in these vehicles ! a waste of my time here other than someone mentioning a group 94r battery. a group 94r has many options as far as cold cranking amps , reserve amps blah blah blah is there anyone on this forum competent enough to know the factory specified battery for the application I listed? no need to post an answer I can get it easier with a phone call to the dealer or by contacting various battery manufacturer. so much for a specific forum that is worthless ?
