Window tint

Okay, here's the deal. I can have my windows tinted for 195 here locally.
But, in Delaware, it is illegal to tint over the 3rd brake light. Does anyone have any pictures of their back window tinted without the tint over the third brake light?
Also, in Delaware, we have a 70% law on the front two windows and I think 15% on the rear three. I'd like to go 15 on the rears, but wouldn't that look not so good with something like 50% on the front two? Maybe 30% on the rear three and 50% on the front two?
Dang tint laws.
Thanks for any help!

I don't understand part of what you are saying...if you are going to stay legal, you have to maintain the 70% level and not go 50%. If you are going to go 50% (or so) then what difference do the tint laws make? Which direction are you going in?

According to this...

http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

DE has 70/any/any...with a 'tint' of 70% it is hardly worth trying to tint the car at all.

Not giving you a hard time, but trying to clarify this a bit.

I have the tint cut out from around the third brake light and it looks perfect, I will try to take a pic of it today for you. My tint is 5% all the way around on my c.

I'd take 70% over nothing any day. Just having the layer of metal or ceramic insulation does a lot for temp control.
Yeah, but come on...this is Delaware we are talking about...

http://www.state.de.us/gic/facts/history/delfact.htm

"Climate:

Delaware's climate is moderate year round. Average monthly temperatures range from 75.8 to 32.0 degrees. Average temperature in the summer months is 74.3 degrees. About 57% of the days are sunny. Annual precipitation is approximately 45 inches. Temperatures along the Atlantic Coast are about 10 degrees warmer in winter and 10 degrees cooler in summer. The average growing season varies from 170 to 200 days."

Fame2002 - I'd really like to see what 5% tint all the way around looks like. Do you have any pics? I'm planning on 20% for mine (if I ever get it).

Have you been ticketed for it yet? Your C looks great! I'm planning on doing mine 20%. In KS, they'll write you a nice $300 ticket unless you can prove that you had it removed. That is, if they catch you.

Dang, I wish that I could do that legally. Consider yourself lucky. We've got a bunch of big-head cops that will pull you over or write you a ticket in a parking lot if they see you with darker than 35%. Yes, they could be out solving murders and preventing crime, but instead, they feel that the public is a safer place with 35% tint vs. 20%. ;)

Solar Control Glass?

Can anyone explain the Solar Control Glass? Is it just a regular preset factory % of tint, or does it get darker in direct sunlight like the auto dimming eyeglasses????

If it is a set % of tint, does anyone have the numbers ??

Thanks

It is a regular preset factory percent of tint, but I don't know what amount. It does not darken or lighten automatically, at least on this car.

Factory tints are embedded into the glass when made; most add-on tints are a film applied to the inside of the glass by some after-market installer.

The name "Solar Control Glass" or similar was simply some past ad guy's dreaming up a way to sell tinted glass, beginning around the '50's. But the car makers had to be careful of the various state laws on visibility, so it's a rather light tint whose stated purpose is to cut down on sun transfer into the car.

Personally, I would say it helps somewhat in that regard but lately tints have become an in-thing with the crowd that wants anonmity from the public and/or think it's a hot thing to do; i.e., the darker the better. :^))

Hope that helps.

Lucky for me, Georgia got rid of their tint law this year. I'd still stick with around 15% though so that I would have some night visibility.

How the hell do you guys with <20% see at night? You live in areas with tons of overhead lights? Living in the country, for me that would be suicide...especially pulling out of drives etc. that drop off into culverts and the like.

I got 5% on all the windows except the windshield. In Ny they can get pretty picky with tints but you just have to give your best excuse and hope for the best. I've done it on all of my cars and knock on wood haven't had a problem yet.

I have 17% and it is difficult to see at night.

If you have Nav did you take in consideration non metallic film vs. mettalic? If you have a Nav and used metallic film are you having problems? I've been doing research and it seems the guys who know what they are doing advising a non metallic film.
