I bought my 300 used and there seems to be scratches in the windshield on the outside passenger side. It looks like someone took a course material and rubbed it on the glass. When I check the outside of the glass closely, it looks and feels like there is a plastic film on the surface of the outside. Is that how everybody's windshield is? With this soft "film" on the glass, every little rock etc that hits it leaves a mark. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there various different qualities of glass that would make a replacement worth while? If this was a piece of electronics I would think it was a plastic film from the factory that needs to be peeled off!

I also got scratches from sand trapped under the wiperblade; you know we have it everywhere here in the Middle East.
Checked but there is no clear film on the windshield, its plain glass.
Please let me know if you found a way to remove the scratches.

thanks,
Ahmed.

I'm going to take the car to an independent glass installer and see if they can tell me what's going on. I'll post their input after my visit.

To some level this can be removed by buffing by some specialists. This is a laborious semi-manual process. If you are in bangalore you can get it done by a couple of shops in a small lane like mission road. Mumbai would have presumably more options, maybe near the opera house or kurla areas. I'm guessing your car is an old esteem or 800. They had relatively poor quality wipers and windshield glass. If you have dust and small material on your screen and you start the wiper, that when they get scratched. Polishing the windscreen is the best way but it is not widely available and I think few local auto parts shop do that.. Better you get the windshield replaced. It's too risky and dangerous to drive at night with scratched windshield...
