Hi guys

In my last 2 oil changed my mechanic told me my oil is very low - 1 quart low..i use regular 10w30 oil QuakerState with typical oil filter.

its an 2006 - 300 with the v6 3.5 ltr. - 75,000 KMS ( 46,000 Miles)

Anyone else experiencing this? Car is too new and mileage is too low to burn oil isnt it???

ANY TIPS??

ideas

first and foremost is pull the PCV valve out and replace it. If that's stuck sometimes you'll use oil fast.

Then it's time to pull the plugs and do compression check and leakdown test.

That will rule out engine problems. I can't believe that young of a motor would use that much oil.

  • 1st - Have you personally verified that it is using/loosing a quart between oil changes or are you just trusting your mechanic's word? Check the dipstick level right after an oil change and then again right before the next change.
  • 2nd - Is there any oily residue on the rear bumper, especially near the tailpipe. If so you are burning oil.
  • 3rd - Check the underside of the car for oily residue, especially behind the engine. A small pressurized leak may only spread back onto the transmission while driving and never leak on the ground.
  • 4th - If all these check out, try a different brand of oil (NO OIL WARS PLEASE!). The oils rated for turbo-diesels (like Chevron Delo400) have additives that generally do a better job of controlling oil blowby.

Duh!

I think A3002NV probably hit it on the head. :pat:

So often it is the simple things while we look for complexity.

First of all in Ontario, you don't run 10w30. You run 5w30 or 0w30 in our cold winters. You do not have to put exactly what is on the cap.

Probably your problem as well. Also, how would he know, no one checks the oil before draining it. I would just keep on driving. Fuel dilution can lead the more burnoff than normal.

But for sure stop using 10w30 in our cold winters, you are just really hampering the engine on cold startup.

Also, what brand of oil is he using?

Yea Check Your Own Oil Before And After Because I Had The Same Issue Of My 300c Burning Oil And The Car Crapped Out On Me At 92,000 Miles...i Had To Replace The 5.7l Engine!! Dont Let It Happen To You Because The @$$h0l3 Dealers Say Its Normal!! Just Lookin Out

I had my oil changed on my 07 3.5 at Chrysler with 12K miles. By 16K miles no oil would even show up on the dipstick, no oil light ever even came on. Knew it was low by the sound the engine was making. Thought it was a fluke, changed the oil myself. By 20K miles NO oil again, and no oil light.

It's at the dealership now, they are warning me since I don't have the receipts from changing the oil myself, it prob won't be covered if anything is wrong with the motor.

Awesome.

You went 20000miles on one oil change?

You checked the oil every 4000 miles?

After seeing theat the oil was burning off you still didn't change it?

You told the dealer what you did?

You heard your engine was making noises like that and you didn't check the oil to see if it was the problem?

Seriously, did you take the short bus to school when you were growing up?:twak:

With stupid actions like that, I wouldn't trust myself to change my own oil.

Just an update, at 27K miles the dealer sealed the dipstick tube and told me to bring it back in 1K miles for them to check. I took it back, they said it was right on the verge of being ok for oil burning, which they told me 1 quart every 1K miles was acceptable. They wanted to do it again, so they added oil, resealed everything up and told me to bring it back again. This time I brought it back after 3K miles. They now have ordered new valve seals in the hopes of fixing the oil burning issue as the car burned more then 3 quarts of oil in that 3K miles I drove it:scared:

yea i have the same problem...the very first time i notice something was when my engine was making a funny noise and it was shaking really hard...so i check my oil stick and there was none left...and i checked my oil just like a month ago too...i check my oill weekly now...and the more i drive it the lesser oil i have...it does not leak or anything i just think the valve is burning oil...i just have to add oil every now and then...cant expect too much from an american car...i ask 3 shops and they all say the same thing...its an american car..it burns oil because if you step on it too much it will burn and such

I'm having this same problem. I have a 2006 300 Sig. Series. 3.5 engine with only 50,000 miles on it. I have replaced the PCV valve but it hasn't helped.

Burned almost 3 quarts in only 4,000 miles. Now every time I check the oil it is at the min. level or about 1/4 inch below.

What else could I try? Since it is out of warranty I really don't want to have a shop pull apart the engine. Having to add a quart of oil every month or so seems wrong.

Oil burning

The spark plugs were just replaced also. There is white smoke (not blue) on start up only. I will say there was about a 3 week lag between replacing 5 of the spark plugs and the last one - if you've ever done it, you'll know the last one is a bear! Most of the forums I've read say to replace the pcv valve as the first thing to do - we got the pcv valve from the dealer, and it's an easy fix, but the timing seems suspicious.

Sorry (white) But what i wanted to know if it was localized to one peticular cylinder or not, hence looking at the spark plug ,so you do have smoke which means there's oil in the combustion chamber, just trying to figure out if it is pvc or if you have oil getting by your valve guides or past your rings.

She said white smoke at start up, which is probably just condensation. My wifes car is at 78,300 miles and still burns about 1 quart every 2k miles. I used rotella t5 10w30 this last time and bought 2 one gallon jugs. I just added the last of the second jug after 5300 miles.

I'm thinking of trying a 10w40 next time in hopes it reduces the oil consumption. It amazes me that the car doesn't smoke.

I just removed and cleaned the throttle body which was gunked up with oil residue. Next up is the spark plugs. I can't wait to see how bad they look. If oil consumption gets any worse, I'll be trading this junk in on a Ford taurus or the new fusion.
