I jave just heard that the 09 300, Challenger and Charger SRT-8s will come with a stock G648 Rear Axle with Limited Slip Differential. It's about time. :fing02: As far as I can see, they will be able to drop right into our beloved older models. I will be ordering mine really soon. It will probably take a while to get as production on the 09s either hasn't started or will take the priority initally.

Woo Hoo!

i havent heard this new yet. but its not like i have been doing any research. i know the 09 Challenger with 6-speed, will be getting the LSD. but as far as i know, it is a different gear case, so it wont drop into the LX's.

personally, im still holding out for a higher gear ratio LSD to be made.

one thing

you can bet on one thing....

with these cars it will NEVER be a simple swap!

$

just think money. No competent driveline engineer with a motor head would want the system.

It's only there because it's cheap.

Holding down the ESP button for 10 seconds on the SRT8 (late 2006 and on) will bring up an ESP Disabled message. You will still have ABS braking but brake and throttle intervention will be gone.

I have the Quaife limited slip diff and this combination works great for road and track unless weather conditions are bad.

I think what might be key is if us guys with Quaife's might be able to reprogram our ESP/TC/ABS Module with the new programing on a 2009 Challenger with the Limited Slip.

I am sure the programming is quite different with a torque sensing limited slip than it is with an open diff.

Also we would gain the rear brake pad kickback control feature as well.

Of course the Chrysler engineers will tell use this isn't possible. But I will ask some of the Starscan experts ... I bet it can be done.

One of the first things I noticed when I ordered my 09 Challenger SRT.

"For 2009, the Challenger will have the option of a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The gearbox basically shares its heritage with the Viper, but we do change ratios in it, just because the engine size and the car weight are considerably different.

"It will share the same twin-disc clutch package as the Viper. That's for long-term durability, and also it gives the car kind of a smartness in shifter quality and clutch quality. Gone are the days when it takes two arms and two legs to push the clutch down on these high-torque cars. The twin-disc clutch basically allows that to be almost effortless.

"The '08 car doesn't have a true limited-slip; it has what we call brake-lock differential. It's an electronic version of a limited-slip. It works by slowing one wheel down to match the other wheel. But it doesn't really instantaneously put all of the power to the ground.

"So, on the '09, the limited-slip will make the car faster in autocross, really any kind of road-racing activity. Getrag is the manufacturer, but we're going back to buzzwords of the '60s and '70s, and it'll be called a Track-Loc.

"That will be on the 5.7 and the 6.1 manuals and on all of the SRT automatics. It's a very good package. It puts the power to the ground very effectively. It allows the owner of the car to really enjoy the experience.

"This car has a rear axle that's actually produced by Mercedes; it's the primary rear axle in all of their performance cars, with 215-millimeter ring gear. But for 2009, the ring gear goes up from 215 millimeters to 226 millimeters.

"You'd say, well, that's not a lot, but in torque durability, it goes up by the square, so the capability goes up quite a bit. And we get the limited-slip with it.

"The axle ratio in all of the automatics is 3.06:1, but for the manuals, we're going to have two ratios. On the 6.1, there will only be a 3.91 ratio, and on the 5.7, there'll be two packages, a 3.73 and a 3.91. The 3.91 gets different tires as well.

Great info. Dodge has it right. Get rid of the brake interference and go with a true LSD. AS mentioned before, the half-shafts get "super-sized" - a big relief to the dragsters.

I run my Quaife now with the ESP totally disabled, with only ABS functioning. I can now torque steer precisely on the race track on entering and exiting corners.

Wonder if I can drop the six-speed manual into my 300C SRT8?

Well Dante, as you now know from last night's chat session they're advising a Quaife LSD, but you're idea is doable. What are your plans now?

Well, I am checking on pricing right now. The parts for the G648 conversion will cost me about $2200 CDN. The best price that I have found for the Quaife is $1600 USD + shipping, handling, taxes, brokerage fees etc.. I am not sure yet whether or not I would need supplementaary bearings with the Quaife or not. None of that includes labour. I am not up on the shimming but some of my buddies can probably help me with that. Decisions - decisions - decisions??!!! :lick:

Does anyone have an update? I am going to need the upgraded half shafts(hopefully later than sooner) and I will probably go with the 09 challenger replacement parts if it is available.
