yea its the HEMI tick...i barely hear it cause i always have the volume up so it doesnt bother me as much, theres nothing to worry about, its common in some 5.7L HEMI's...

...as far as the V-6...i have no clue, sry

Having taken the car back to the dealers 3 times, I am now satisfied that it is just a characteristic of the car, the mechanic took me out in 3 other 300C's and they all did it to a greater or lesser extent. His explanation was that Mercedes as part of their cost cutting to reduce the E-class down to the 300C's price was to skimp on engine bay insulation, and given that from outside you can't hear it i am inclined to believe him. bit annoying, but on the plus side they found a cracked big end bearing and an oil leak while they were investigating it, which they fixed under my remaining 1 months warranty, so lucky really!

Hemi Tick

I too have the "Hemi Tick" too on my 88,000+ mile 5.7L Hemi. I think it is a combination of several things.
1. The lifters are set high in the block as compared to other V-configuration engines in order to fit the push rods in at a suitable angle to the rocker arms (and still have long term durability), the lifters and cam are set high and that leaves less engine mass to dampen lifter noise.
2. The MSDS solenoid lifter assemblies are known to be a little noisier than the no MSDS Hemis (trucks 2003-2005). MAKE SURE you only use 5W-20 synthietic or synthetic blend oil (high quality). Heavier oils cause the tightly toleranced solenoid-lifter assemblies to bind a little and "click". If you've had 5W-30 installed, as my dealer did once, it shouldn't cause permanent damage.
3. If there was more sound deadener, the noise would be less notcieable. NOTE: the engine cover is not just for a clean underhood look, it has foam on its underside to act as a sound deadener.

Another click heard under heavy acceleration is a small valve mounted on the firewall that is a part of the evaporative recovery (EVAP) system. This is a plastic (nylon?) solenoid type valve that opens and closes as the engine operates. It has no insulation around it and being plastic, it has little mass to absorb its own sound, etc.

In any event, my engine has run beautifully and has been maintained properly. I don't think the "tick" noise is anything but normal for this engine.

I use a product for my customers called "tune up" by Unipart,I'm not advertising but it cleans the glazing off the lifters,we use it a lot on UK GM motors as they are known for sticking/ticking valves etc.,you just add it to the oil and go,after 1/2 hour it clears all oilways allowing the oil to get to all the vital organs

83k+ and have a mild "HEMI tick" that's loudest (but not bad) at the end of a 3K oil change and virtually silent at the beginning - so there's definitely a mechanical component to the tick. No oil burn off so I figure it's the wear additives being exhausted. I've had every oil change done at the stealership with 5w20 dino oil (often with a coupon dicount). Wonder who's bulk oil they're using? If anyone knows, speak up! GM has an OLM (oil life monitor) that's an algorithm based on RPM count, temps, trans, throttle, etc that's SUPER accurate (Oil Change Question - Page 2 - Cadillac Owners Group). The *key* factor is a sacrificial zinc/phosphorous wear additive in (most? synthethic?) oils that decreases at a virtually linear rate with RPM count. When it's gone, rapid wear occurs. Thinking of switching to synthetic or at least using some kind of additive/booster. Any suggestions?

I took my 300 V6 2.7 to the shop to stop to check on the ticking noise. Just got 40k on it. I new it was the lifters but the shop wanted to change the rocker arm,cam shaft too for a total of $3900. Just told them to change the lifters and the noise went away. cost me $1100.

2006 300 SRT 8 Engine tick

Anyone out there with this ticking noise in a SRT 8. The car has about 114000 km and has always had synthetic oil. The ticking seemed to have started last year. Stored in the winter and well taken care of. Any way of fixing this with out breaking into a bank?

I have 31 K miles on my 2013 5.7. I've had the car four about 4 or 5 months now. My noise started for the first time yesterday. My tick is loud in the engine compartment on the passengers side. No noise inside the car. The car still preforms well. I bought the car from Carmax and also purchased a 5 year 100 K warranty. I think I'll have them check it out. Sure sounds like a lifter issue to me.

Hi cudaus1,
I couldn't find any TSBs related to your issue. Please keep us posted on the findings and let me know if I can be of any assistance in the meantime!

Hi,
Thanks for you're offer to help. The reason that I think it may be a lifter issue is that I have heard bad lifters in the past with my experience with old muscle cars.

I also saw in this thread that some other people have had their lifters replaced by Chrysler. The good news is that I still have some of the 3/36 warranty left and I have an appointment with my local dealer Galeana Chrysler on Wednesday. Hopefully they can correct the problem.

I will keep you posted as to the outcome.

Thanks again,
Ted
