park assist just stopped working

Stood in traffic this afternoon I noticed in the rear view mirror that all my park assist lights were illuminated, they then started flickering and went out, got to tescos and went to reverse into a parking space and noticed that the lights hadn't come on at all plus no beeps, the lights don't even light up when the ignition is turned on which they used to do. I know this might be one of those niggling little problems which sorts its self out overnight but any of you guys out there had anything similar ?

Might be worth checking to see if there is an associated fuse for it. Hopefully someone kind may have access to check the schematics.

The problem I had was somewhat different, used to get solid red light after a car wash but was OK when it dried out.

I now believe that problem was sorted after cleaning the sensors with a clay bar......lol It hasn't bleep after that, even during a heavy down pour or when its hosed down. Still keeping an eye on it though but its holding out well :yup:

Been looking through the handbook tonight and there's fuse 41 in the boot that serves the park assist, it also does the tpms and that seems to be working ok, wierd thing is i had a puncture in one of my tyres just before this happened, the garage repaired the flat but its got me thinking about the tpms, will deffo check the fuse in the morning though. I'm sure i've seen one of jacks posts showing the park assist module in the boot as well so i guess i'll be hunting that one down for any loose connections.

If its not working tomorrow, pull the correct fuse and plug back in. Hopefully its just one of them odd glitches, if there was a fault, it would throw up 'park assist' on the evic with a bong :yup:

Its within the rear quater panel vacinity, not too far from the car battery :)

Make a note of serial no while there, might be cheaper to try a replacement unit from a local Chrysler breakers. CANBUS is beyond my remit :yup:

#13 · (Edited)
Just checked drawings and allsorts of other equip wired to same Canbus.

If pulling fuse for Park Assist Module for while doesnt fix it, I would personally disconnect battery for a few minutes and hope it sorts itself out.
If that doesnt fix it I would unplug all sensors from Park Assist Module and try with no sensors connected in case one is dragging system down for some reason. (Would then have to check if system can be enabled/disabled on EVIC) or plug sensors back in, one at a time.

EDIT
Bear in mind system will only enable itself when Reverse is selected. ( I know its obvious, but thought I'd better mention it) :lick:

Check all sensors for shorts to chassis while unplugged.
Codes may be stored but I assume a basic machine won't read them.

Thanks for the reply jack, much appreciated, know what you mean about technology....its a proper pain when it goes south, i wouldn' t really want to go back to the old days but i could always fix my 1300cc ohv mk1 ford escort, everything was a doddle in them days, no canbus electronics to throw a wobbly !!. Regards disconnecting the battery my only concern is losing the radio as i haven't got the 4 digit pin to re input and to be honest i' d rather lose the sensors than my music.

May not need the code, but I know what you mean. Think its already registered and stored in the ECM and will automatically re-register itself. Think its only a problem if units are swapped between cars or new Radio fitted.

May be worth ringing Chrysler Customer Services to get the code anyway?
Will be on their system.

unless the radio has been changed and not registered any MAIN dealer can supply the code free of charge.
I lost mine when the battery was disconnected for a couple of days.
Rang the supplying dealer but as they are only franchised they couldnt help.
A call to the nearest main dealer got the code instantly with just the car reg number.

Just checking if it has been sorted? Did you replace the module, check the wiring & sensors?

#25 ·
If you unplug your module and plug it into another car or try one from another car, it might be a quick way to confirm if the unit is faulty for as long as the part numbers are the same. It won't rule out a series of faulty sensors though, usually sensors are first to go :yup:

Its a bit of a pain to get to so i can't see anybody volunteering to take theirs out to be honest, i'll see if petman gets me any codes next week, i may try fleabay or a breakers to see if i can get a replacement module, failing that its down to the local pet shop for a couple of little kittens to fix to the bumper, they squeak when you've backed up too far:eek:

It would be at least worth checking supply to module and each detectors continuity and insulation to chassis.
Could also check for voltages on Can-Bus connections on module. Should be some sensible low DC voltage on each pin (About 2.4Volts if I remember right).

I assume you have access to wiring diagrams. I could dig some out and post if you don't have them but don't want to waste my time if you've got access to manual.

As Badgx says. No chance at all of using existing detectors on an aftermarket module.

I have dug this attached layout of pinouts on Module which saves searching through drawings.
It would be worthwhile to at least check the 12V supply, the Canbus 2.4Volts and make sure the chassis connection has zero volts on it and has continuity to chassis.

Then disconnect all 4 sensors, compare continuity of sensors and check there is no continuity to chassis on a any sensor pin)

As a last resort I would even try disconnecting all 4 sensors and power it up without the sensors plugged in to see what happens. (I'm sure it wont damage the module running with no sensors connected, modern electronics are well designed to protect against that type of damage now)

A dealer would know in seconds if the module was recognised on the system with their Starscan but at an hour labour.

An oscilloscope would do a similar job but checking for 2.4V on the CanBus would prove that no wires are O/C on the Bus.

Doubt it very much bud, remember its on the canbus too, its another level.

hello
i recently bought 07 300c and the parking assist doesn't work
i have a code saying lost 'lost communication with parking assist control module'
im not sure if its the module is bad or some wiring is bad
the car has a little messed up rear bumper but i dont think it will cause the sensor to get damage
